The Health Benefits of Community Living
A growing body of research highlights the benefits of community living on our cognitive, emotional, and physical health, while also showing the risks of social isolation. In 2017, the Mather Institute and Northwestern University launched a 5-year study of 8,000 seniors to quantify the impact of Life Plan communities. Key findings included:
- Residents consistently reported better physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and vocational wellness than their peers.
- Plus, their social contact and intellectual engagement was significantly increased compared to their non-Life Plan peers.
